The Stork Has Delivered!

My second-born sister just had her first baby last week Thursday. Her pregnancy followed the same path as mine did, particularly with Wyatt, in that she started showing signs of preeclampsia about 2 months prior to her due date. Her body was so swollen. Her legs looked like tree stumps. Thankfully her nose never got as wide as mine did!!
Since baby Devon Rose has joined this world I've fought the urge to buy a plane ticket and run out there to eastern Pennsylvania. It has been really hard. This is the first of my blood neices/nephews to be born. My parents, 3 other sisters and brothers-in-laws have kept me updated minute by minute, hour by hour with what has been goin on and tons of pictures!
Baby Devon was born via c-section after 9 hours of my sister laboring. At 9 hours in, the doc was concerned about my sister's blood pressure and the baby was showing signs of stress. Devon started movning back up the birth canal. Devon was born at 6:26 p.m. (eastern time) on April 9th, 2009. Daddy was by momma's side the entire time. Initially there were problems with Devon's breathing and temperature but they got that taken care of. My sister is still in the hospital because her blood results showed that her liver was high in enzymes. Her magnesium levels were seriously low. Her blood pressure was still higher than it should be. She has been on bedrest since the birth.
As the oldest sister, my heart is aching to be there with her. I never knew it would be this hard. For the 8 years since I've moved back home to Kansas, my sisters and I have become closer than ever. Despite the 1000+ miles that separate us my relationship with each one is strong. I love my sisters so much. We've had quite a life together growin up. We've experienced so much. In just this past year we have seen our parents marriage end. Our ages are 30,28,26 and 23. This was no shock to us as we have seen it slowly crumble since we were old enough to sense something was not right. Through the breakdown of their marriage, we have spent years living at a Bible college, being pastor's kids, spending 35-45 weekends per year in churches all over the Midwest and East Coast for 6 years, being missionary kids, living in a third world country and the only white kids in an entire province, returning to the US knowing it was because of our parents relationship, moving out of our parents home, college, marriage and now babies. My sisters and I know each other inside and out. We stick together. We've had to. Many times it was just us four girls together, battling emotions, scars, situations, and strife that we could do nothin about 'cept pray. We have prayed a lot together: for our parents, for our lives, and each of our families. Now, as my sister is starting her family, I want so much to share that with her. I want to be up with her for her mid-night nursings. I want to just be with her as she experiences the miraculous inexplainable thing we call motherhood.
*(2hrs after I started typing this)* I just got a call that she should be goin home today!!!

Well, slap me some horns and call me Bessie

Date: Jun 25, 2008

No, not the devil horns I was wearing before. I ditched those along with the, well, I'll leave that to your imagnation (hint: it happened during the operation and was not a pretty sight for the docs). You know, the ones that you see on creatures of a bovinous nature. Is that a word? Bovinous?

The bovines that have a big bag of milk with bulging teats is more what I'm talking about.
That's me. I have plenty. So much that it's painful. I don't like to walk. They swing. Look at her swing! I'm glad I'm not a cow. I have to lay on my back. It hurts for Wyatt to use them as a crutch or pillow. They're not play toys anymore, just business. I know there are professional football players that pay a God-awful amount of money for the human variety of milk so if anyone happens to know of someone I'd be willing to make a deal and sell some. I think Jarrett is going to get as big and chunky as Wyatt was.

I'm just glad I don't have a 100 pound calf with the sucking capabilities to remove a finger on me! My 9 pounder is quite enough! And talkin bout him....he's bellering for me right now.

Ramblings About Rumblings

Date: Jun 6, 2008

...excerpt from my email to my sister...b/c i'm lazy like that and i don't care. and you don't have to read it anyway.

As for plans for the weekend? No, not really. i might go down to derby and drive thru all the garage sales b/c i'm looking for another table to put out back on the deck since the other one got smashed fromt he wind.

this morning i started on my diaper stacker. i was racking my brain trying to find a way to put something hard/stiff in the bottom that wouldn't be destroyed on the off chance that i'd have to wash it. i finally thought of it. cardboard....but.....i took my laminating sheets and used them to seal it up on all sides. now i could wash it if needed. i'm making it out of dark brown material with a very off white ribbing. it'll match the play pen.

well, we got storms, lightning and thunder and lots of it and the wind!! and a TON of driving torrential rain! But thankfully NO hail or tornado! we have some very small branches tore off the tree. only about 2" in diamter and very green. it was weird. E is taking the storms a heck of a lot more seriously now that we have wyatt. used to he never paid ANY mind to them! even when the sirens went off. he'd check to see where the rotation or funnel was spotted and then just go on watching tv. but NOW? i'm downright proud, not that i expected him not to care, it's just, he's never been like this before we had wyatt. he had the air mattress, blankets, pillows, water, batt. operated lantern and other stuff all downstairs and ready to go. he fried bacon early and got wy fed while i gathered extra clothes diapers, snacks (in the pantry in the basement anyway), wipes, some toys and had them down there. our sirens went off but the funnel was hitting down about 30 mi. south of us and going n/ne direction. there was a funnel straight west of us but b/c the storms were going n/ne and downtown wichita always seems to dissipitate the tornadoes, we didn't have to worry about that one either. it was actually pretty uneventful compared to most times. and yes! i know what you mean about missing the thunder! and lightning across the prairie.
i was planning on washing buster today or tomorrow, or sun. or monday. whenever i get around to it. you know, i bought those collars called 'gentle leaders'. i do NOT like choke chains and i used to use the pinch collar on buster and the ch. chain on prix. but the pinch collar somehow got all bent out of shape and i can't bend it back to normal. so, i bought those gentle leaders. it's a collar but it has a loop that goes over/around the nose/mouth area behind the lips and down to the collar underneath the neck. it acts the exact same as a halter on a horse. when they pull forward with the neck and head it puts pressure on the top/back of the neck instead of cutting into the muscle/throat/airways like a choke chain. i'm pretty impressed. yesterday i put them on the dogs to get them used to it. prix did great. buster fought it and acted like a huge baby, like his whole body wouldn't work b/c of it!! it was hilarious! today when wy and i took the dogs out down the road to see how they'd do prix kinda fought it a little more than buster! but it subdued buster enough that he actually walked down and back without getting so damn excited and yipping and barking and yapping and dancing all around that whole way! it was really nice! and off course they didn't bolt out the door when we left too. i kept telling them to 'walk'. they did good! at least i didn't feel like strangling them and leaving them home!
i think wy thinks we're crazy when we say my belly is a baby b/c he knows babies only as babies-real live crying, wiggling things that look like him! but i'm hoping there will be a connection somehow that i don't know about. when we come home from the hospital we're going to have him ride home with us so that he knows that the baby is all of ours....kinda help him understand that and make the transition.
after i get wheeled back into the recovery room we'll be there probably until mid-afternoon before i can handle the move up to the higher floor w/o puking like i did last time. the dr. is going to be able to tell if i ripped the internal stitches when i puked. i'm glad he doesn't do the stitches on the outside or staples! i like the fact that i don't have to have anything removed after a week or so. the last length of thread just dissolves and i can shower or take a bath as soon as i can get out of bed pretty much. which is about 6 hours after the surgery when the epidural is totally and safely worn off that i can walk with help. i will probably text you girls first thing, then call mom and dad and then later i'll give each of you a call to talk. but, it might be earlier b/c i might have time, who knows!
okay, i'm dying to get back to sewing. wy of course is down for a nap and i'm getting hungry besides!
love ya and have a barrell of fun on vacation!!!!

I See The Light!!!

Date: May 30, 2008

i'm tellin ya. it's hard to deal with the idiosyncrocies of pregnancy. i feel like all i do is complain but yet i feel like no one really truly understands all the body feels and goes thru unless that person's been pregnant before. something so easy as putting on underwear. no one thinks about that. but you do every single damn morning when you can't lift your leg up that high b/c of the dropping belly. i curse underwear every single frickin morning! :-) it's sounds so stupid but it sets the morning off in not so glamorous a mood! sometimes people just act as if it's really nothing and you should just buck up and handle it. they have no idea. i could cry from frustration pretty much any time during the day. that doesn't mean i'm wallowing in misery. i have a blast with wyatt; we laugh and play and all that, but carrying/feeding/sustaining one inside is exhausting and you can't realize how magnanimous this task is unless you've been pregnant. Then you add one outside who needs you emtionally as well as physically with feeding times, diapers, play time, care, understanding, patience, extreme independence, never-ending inquisitiveness etc. this is not a hard thing to do unless you are drained of energy, your appendages are extremely weak with the re-routing of blood in your body, you are so tired you find yourself nodding off while your 19 mo. old is playing, you huff and puff after taking seven steps slowly up to the next level.....and you must move b/c if you don't you will fall asleep.
i'm finally believing there is light at the end of the tunnel. I do see an end to this. i just wish i could lay in bed and be drugged the next 11 days until that epidural kicks in!

If One More Person Tells Me...

Date: May 21, 2008

If one more person has the bright idea of telling me that I only have so many weeks left or so many days left I'm to the point that I will not make excuses for what comes out of my mouth as a comeback. Come on! You've got to be kiddin me! Was I in pain 3 months ago? Was I swelling 3 months ago? Was I next to immobile 3 months ago? The answer is NO! I felt great! So how come people just don't empathize and say something like, 'wow, that must be really frustrating', or 'man, I feel for ya!'. No! They've got to say something that can set off a very painful and explosive time bomb! I'm not asking to be this way. It just happens. If it could be so easy as creating some vitamin or pill that stabilizes the hormones and thus the emotions than don't you think it would have been discovered? But pregnancy is SO intricate and inexplainable! Some pregnancies are great and some aren't so great! Some have a great beginning and middle but don't have a great ending-like mine. But I don't give a damn WHO you are, when a body is in chronic pain with nothing to moderate it with, so big that you can't bend to the ground to pick something up or tie your shoes or use a razor without the bathtub looking like you gutted a critter in, or so swollen that you can't feel how well you are gripping something so you drop it (and can't pick it up), and have numbness from your elbow down to your finger tips on your hand that you write with, when you've got this to handle every single day you don't want to hear some free-loading jackass tell you 'you've only got 3 weeks left!' with some cheesy self-impregnating (excuse the pun) grin. Wipe off that grin and tell me how you'd feel if I beat you with a rubber mallot for the next 5 hours (a mere price to pay right?) and tell you at random times 'hang in there, buddy, it'll be over soon! You've come so far and you've only got 4 hours and 23 minutes left'. Please, hang in there my ass! At least you could get up and fight! A pregnant body has no where to go! Do you think I want to be in tears damn near every night because of the pain and swelling? You may think my pain level isn't very high. Go ahead, think what you want. It just shows that you haven't heard or seen enough of what a body can go through. Have you had a 31 lb. boy climbing all over you during the day while you have an 8 lb boy jabbing back on the other side of your epidermis at whatever is mashing him? Have you ever felt that? Can you imagine how that feels?
Yes, I'm tired of being in pain. Yes, I'm tired of being handicapped. Yes, I'm just plain worn out. I can't wait for the 8 inch incision and no sleep. I remember how great I felt before the epidural even wore off and how much energy I had even in the hospital averaging 3 hrs or so of sleep. I felt great!! I can't frickin' wait! It is all worth it but it doesn't mean it's an easy journey. There are so many things I haven't even touched on! I have to leave for an appointment. Maybe the doc will have good news.

Epidurals and Scalpels-The Sooner Everyone's Better

Date: May 1, 2008

I couldn't make it any longer. As of tomorrow evening my lifting and bending will have decreased as many as 25 times per day and I'm hoping my pain will decrease dramatically along with it. At my appointment yesterday my doctor walked in and said, 'How are you coming along?', to which I replied 'I'm having more pain than ever in my back.' He looked at me and said, 'I can see the pain in you face.' Great. And here are the options: quit lifting other than when I absolutely have to, ice/heat as much as possible during the day, physical therapy, and narcotics. He suggested we start off with no more lifting. That means no more watching our friends' babies. I don't know 'bout other moms but the availability of icing/heating my back during the day is pretty rare. Going to physical therarpy means lifting more. Wyatt can't climb in and out of the truck by himself! Tylenol Extra Strength does not a dadgum thing! I think I will be purchasing that $15 pool at Wal-Mart again and naming it my PT! Wyatt can walk over the side into it and Abigail can too!!
5 1/2 weeks to the c-section unless I start labor sooner!! I guess in the next couple of weeks I better think about getting a bag ready for the hospital! I need to get a pack or two of newborn diapers. I've already got all the clothes washed...just need to put them in the drawer and hope Wyatt doesn't find them and string them out all over the floor!! He gets great glee out of pulling out clothes from drawers or pulling down stacks of folded laundry! I don't think E will be as gleeful going around picking up all the clothes.
We/I am getting real excited about a couple of things: (they don't necessarily go in this order though and not all of them are on E's list)
1-EPIDURAL=no pain!!! I can't frickin' wait!

2-of course seeing/holding/meeting/nursing J.D.

3-epidural-oh, i said that already

4-the weird taste in my mouth will disappear

5-drinking lots of water again w/o getting acid reflux or indigestion or whatever it is

6-can I add epidural again?

7-shaving my legs w/o getting pissed off-E might be helping me on that one from now on

8-my sister Tegan and her hubby will be here the whole week before Memorial Day

9-going thru the night w/o peeing 3-5 times (notice I did NOT say sleeping thru the night)

10-ENERGY

11-the hormones will lower to near manlike levels in my body

12-I forgot one-epidural (ironically that was the thing I was the most scared about having a c-section the first time. It's not the scalpel, or the skin being folded back and clamped, or the digging around in my nether regions for the baby, or laying naked sprawled out on a cold table in front of a dozen people, or just the fact that it's a major surgery. No, it was the epidural. I've never been afraid of needles and still am not, it's just that it goes between my vertebra!!!!)

The Female of the Species Is More Deadly Than the Male

Date: Apr 26, 2008

I've been working on this the last week. It's shrinking slowly. The original pile was about 5'x1.5'xknee high. It was ugly. I think I've got it down to about 3 or 4 loads left.

Earlier this week, I fleetingly saw what looked to be a tube of toothpaste in a certain (who shall remain unmetioned) toddlers mouth, rounding the corner into the kitchen. I forgot all about it. Until that night. Our toothpast was G-O-N-E. I looked in the usual places of the tub, trash can, magazine basket, John Deere tin of toys, toy box all the way downstairs, in E's boots, everywhere!!! Then I vaguely was aware that I had seen that tube earlier in the day going to the kitchen. So I searched the kitchen. Nothing. Searched again. Again nothing. And then I remembered I had the door open most of the day because it was so nice. Great. It could be anywhere! Under the deck, in empty flower pots, in flower beds, in the dog feeder, in the dog's water, around either corner of the house. It was dark out by this time. I actually found it here:
Photobucket
You can't see the dirt on the screw-top but it was no doubt, used as an excavating tool. Oh well! More grit to polish the teeth!
Here are some items currently MIA:
-small travel-size bottle of shampoo for weekend and camping trips (2 mos)
-male titanium wedding band (at least 1 mo)
-brand spankin' new hair clip (3.5 mos)
Items that have been recovered in rare cleaning endeavors:
-small notebook of Wyatt's accomplishments since I'm not the 'got-it-together' mom who has a baby book. Found under upper deck in back of house.
-sippy cup MIA 3 days. Wyatt left it outside, Buster confiscated it, and I found it dirty and lonely in mud.
-softball mysteriously showed up in the trash can one day. Didn't even know it was missing!
-sock: Wyatt knew where he put it because when I asked him where it was he said 'trash' and went straight in and got it.
-ear thermometer of which I had no idea was missing until cleaning behind the headboard. This is a very favorite place of missing items to hide.
-ear thermometer MIA second time, only it was found dead-upon-my-arrival by drowning in the dog's water. RIP
I'm going to go lay down now because my back and ribs hurt. The ribs are yet another area cramped by Jarrett's impossibly long legs.
Jarrett's leg
How? Why my body? Will it stop? How come he can't come out N-O-W????? 6 weeks and 2 days left. But who's counting? Only the one with the extra 33 lbs on a 5'2 1/2" frame and chronic back pain! I have actually wished that my doctor would find a medical reason to take this baby out of me on Wednesday at my next check-up. Of course I wouldn't want it to cause any risk to Jarrett but I'd take the high blood pressure and the severe swelling to shorten the length of time my body is subjected to carry this wonderful, awesome, joyous, enlightening, best-time-in-my-life, never-felt-better, bundle of joy! I wouldn't trade it for the world but I'd like to make an order the next time it happens. Two nights in a row I soaked E with tears this week. I think they need to make an anti-hormonal concoction that pregnant women can take to stabilize their mental condition. How come a man hasn't come up with that? I think it's worse on them than it is us women! I was so frustrated at little things that, like the laundry, pile up, and before you know it you're at the boiling point. Luckily for me, and for E, I kept my mouth shut and the tears rolling and by the time I was done I felt better. I didn't feel anymore like this:
Unprovoked and awful charges – even so the she-bear fights,
Speech that drips, corrodes, and poisons – even so the cobra bites,
Scientific vivisection of one nerve till it is raw
And the victim writhes in anguish – like the Jesuit with the squaw!
Ah! To be female! This is one bad piece of writing. Talk about summin it all up! I wonder if hormones had already been discovered when Rudyard penned this poem?

When the Himalayan peasant meets the he-bear in his pride,
He shouts to scare the monster, who will often turn aside.
But the she-bear thus accosted rends the peasant tooth and nail.
For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.

When Nag the basking cobra hears the careless foot of man,
He will sometimes wriggle sideways and avoid it if he can.
But his mate makes no such motion where she camps beside the trail.
For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.

When the early Jesuit fathers preached to Hurons and Choctaws,
They prayed to be delivered from the vengeance of the squaws.
'Twas the women, not the warriors, turned those stark enthusiasts pale.
For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.

Man's timid heart is bursting with the things he must not say,
For the Woman that God gave him isn't his to give away;
But when hunter meets with husbands, each confirms the other's tale –
The female of the species is more deadly than the male.

Man, a bear in most relations – worm and savage otherwise, –
Man propounds negotiations, Man accepts the compromise.
Very rarely will he squarely push the logic of a fact
To its ultimate conclusion in unmitigated act.

Fear, or foolishness, impels him, ere he lay the wicked low,
To concede some form of trial even to his fiercest foe.
Mirth obscene diverts his anger – Doubt and Pity oft perplex
Him in dealing with an issue – to the scandal of The Sex!

But the Woman that God gave him, every fibre of her frame
Proves her launched for one sole issue, armed and engined for the same,
And to serve that single issue, lest the generations fail,
The female of the species must be deadlier than the male.

She who faces Death by torture for each life beneath her breast
May not deal in doubt or pity – must not swerve for fact or jest.
These be purely male diversions – not in these her honour dwells.
She the Other Law we live by, is that Law and nothing else.

She can bring no more to living than the powers that make her great
As the Mother of the Infant and the Mistress of the Mate.
And when Babe and Man are lacking and she strides unclaimed to claim
Her right as femme (and baron), her equipment is the same.

She is wedded to convictions – in default of grosser ties;
Her contentions are her children, Heaven help him who denies! –
He will meet no suave discussion, but the instant, white-hot, wild,
Wakened female of the species warring as for spouse and child.

Unprovoked and awful charges – even so the she-bear fights,
Speech that drips, corrodes, and poisons – even so the cobra bites,
Scientific vivisection of one nerve till it is raw
And the victim writhes in anguish – like the Jesuit with the squaw!

So it comes that Man, the coward, when he gathers to confer
With his fellow-braves in council, dare not leave a place for her
Where, at war with Life and Conscience, he uplifts his erring hands
To some God of Abstract Justice – which no woman understands.

And Man knows it! Knows, moreover, that the Woman that God gave him
Must command but may not govern – shall enthral but not enslave him.
And She knows, because She warns him, and Her instincts never fail,
That the Female of Her Species is more deadly than the Male.

Wedding Bands and Swollen Body Parts

Well, yesterday I wrestled off my wedding band. Yes, it was painful-very, might I add! It's three weeks later than when we had to cut off my rings when I was preggo with Wyatt. Not bad you say? Well, take a look at my nose. Has anyone happened to notice it in the last couple of days? Or maybe you've noticed it in the last couple weeks and I'm just trying to create a positive self-image and have subconsciously ignored the widening and have done well in the self-image thing. I think now's the time to get the wide-angle lens out if my picture is going to be taken. At least this time it's waited until 7 1/2 months instead of 5 1/2 months! Talking about swollen....how in the hell does your butt swell? I know swelling is really quite normal and at this stage in the game the dr's say it's all water retention. But in my butt? I'm not really buying it. No one has ever looked so forward to a major surgery than a woman who is in constant back pain, has sausage fingers,a 6 lane bridge on her nose, and a "juicy" butt (notice the quotes? someone said that...but I'm okay with that...I have a positive self-image, remember?). The last time I went shopping something really really pissed me off. I had wore a pair of jeans that just days before were great!! I went fishing in them! That says a lot because of all the bending over and walking you usually do when fishing at a river. What I didn't know, or refused to realize before I went shopping was that the so-called water retention had flooded my body. By the time I had bent over a 100 times to lift a 25 lb. bag of flour, case of wipes, case of diapers, 24 roll pack of t.p., and other various items in the store and then walked out of the store the waistband of my underwear was actually BELOW my butt!! That's thanks to the jeans that used to fit. Every move a pregnant woman makes has a huge effect on the position of her jeans. And that affect is always down. Use a belt you say? Haaaaaaa heeeeeee bwaaaaahhhh haaaaa haaa!!! You've never been preggo have you? And you don't have an 8" scar from a previous c-section do you? Women who had c-sections 18 years ago say their incision line still is bothersome to them! Her name is Diana and I worked with her! Belts are out of the question! I'd like jeans and underwear to be out too...but I don't live in a nudist colony. I think that should be available to every pregnant woman...along with a huge pool! And poolside service! Anyhow, after we got out to the truck and I had unloaded the stuff I was in a real cranky mood. At this point I didn't care who saw me do what. I got in the truck, let loose with a couple different adjective/verbs (they were one in the same in this case) and yes, in front of anyone who may have been watching me I dug into my jeans and pulled up my drawers. There. It's out. It's a fact. You can laugh. I don't care. It really needed to be done. Oh, and while we were there, I had to, no surprise, go to the restroom. They have these handy-dandy little pull-down chairs for toddlers in the handicap stall. Obviously it's to help keep the little hands out of the toilet while mom is pulling, pushing, hoisting, begging and pleading with her jeans to get up around her waist and stay there without the help of baling twine, bubble gum, belts or staples. Wyatt was too tall for it. The straps really cinched him down and I heard his spine pop from bottom to top as I lifted him out of it. Look at his face!! He never complained though. Maybe that was because his voice-box was mashed down into his bladder...I don't know...
Photobucket
He did eventually forgive me. I had to bribe him with food.

Don't Look Ma!

Date: Apr 10, 2008

I swear, I turn my back for one second and this happens!!
Photobucket
Oh, yeah, that happened too, but I meant this....
Photobucket
He knew he was caught so he tried to get all the stuff he could before I got to him. Sneaky and smart. I wonder where he gets that? Obviously the sneaky part was learned from the perpetrator of the first photo!
Photobucket
Well, whaddya know? We're getting hail from one huge lone gray cloud! At least it's not big hail accompanied by hurricane force winds and no electricity like those down in Oklahoma this past week! Or Arkansas, or Texas.....
Photobucket
Photobucket
It ain't nothin'. No bigger than a pea.
Wyatt has also learned how to operate the water dispenser! He learned that at Grandma and pa Laver's two weekends ago and had to bring grandma and mommy water while we were talking last weekend.
Photobucket
Notice, we each had our own cup too! Grandma said he saw grandpa get ice and water one time and that was it! He pumped their well dry! Wyatt also learned where a very very well hidden stash of candy was at grandma's! If it was at mom and dad's house even the Feds wouldn't have located it! Ask dad! He can't even find momma's stash, or was it stashes? I can't remember right now. Obviously gr'ma and pa don't worry about getting raided because they need help hiding things!! I have a reason to worry about my stash being raided so hidden it will stay!
Photobucket
Grandma reported his eyes went big and round and he let out a slow 'oooooooohhhh'. This last weekend he remembered where it was and came around the corner with a pack of candy in his hand. He looked at me, then at grandma, then back at me and I saw fear in his eyes! He high-tailed to grandma and just before he got there he tripped and fell, landing at her feet, arm outstretched handing the candy to grandma yelling, 'NOOOOOO, momma!!! Grandma, take it, hurry!!!' Well, just kidding on the last part. He did however look at both of us and decided to make a bolt to grandma knowing he had better odds at eating the whole pack with her! And he did! And he went and got another pack too. Sneaky little devil!
Speakin of devil. E came home to get some stuff from OUR garage going above and beyond for the owners and medical staff who are making his and the guys' (and their wives/families) life hell! As you can tell, it's getting to me. This certain group of people act as if they've hired a pool boy and his crew to do petty maintenance stuff and work around THEM all day! It's not their frickin' job! Never mind they have families that might want to see them. Never mind that they're so worn out and frustrated with whiny complaints that it's hard for them to communicate when they get home.
I digress....back to the devil....he came home to get the supplies he needed and when he left he made a mistake. He kissed me. But.....he kissed me smelling of sawdust. Not a smart move if he thinks he can come home and relax and ignore me. It might be very strange to y'all but sawdust does something to me. I want to find a cologne for him to wear that smells like sawdust. Who's the perp now? I confess. I think he knew what he did though, because when I told him he smelled good, he gave me a devilish grin.

Fat Wednesday and the End of Construction Jobs

Date: Apr 4, 2008

Hhhhhhmmmmmmm......there's a couple things I need today. But first, did anyone know that Wednesday was the day of the year known as Fat Wednesday? I didn't. Do you want to know why? I did. This is from Paul Harvey so this is serious! That day is called 'Fat Wednesday' because it's said to be the halfway point between when people make New Year's resolutions and want to be in shape for the summer's bikinni, and I supsect for some, but thank the good Lord not all, the speedo season. Not that I mind what it covers but that's for my bedroom and my eyes only and I don't want to see the formation of the object of other women's healthy libido. That's for their bedroom! If you guys like women checkin out your package that's because it isn't easily sized up through clothes as well as boobs can be sized up even under a huge frumpy shirt! And if it was easily recognizable than I'll bet you'd get mighty tired of females always lookin at your intersection instead of your eyes when they talk to you. 'Damn, doesn't she even see me?', 'do I need to wear an apron or nail bag that says, 'yeah, there's two balls but they aren't my eyeballs!! Look north you Kreebler!!' (Kreebler: a.k.a. -ask Eric and Tegan about that one)
On second thought....nah, no way. I really don't think there's a chance in Hell those thoughts would even remotely come into a male's mind unless.......hmmmm....you find yourself on the other side....or of course the hormones were switched from male to female. That's probably the only two reasons in the universe. Yup. It's time for my hubby to come home...NOW!!
Okay, on to what I really was going to share today!!
I need some pick-me-ups today. I've got a frickin' sore throat and swollen glands which means yet another sinus infection on the way to debilitate me. I wish I could get everything done in the day WITHOUT leaving the couch or my bed!! My body is extra exhausted because of this. I have to keep resting my arms because they are getting very tired and achy as I type.
This mentally refreshes me:
Photobucket
Flowers somehow always give me a spring in my step. When I'm outside I breath in fresh clean air. It's like it helps clear out the cobwebs and gives me the ability to think clearly.
These guys physically relax me:
Pups
Whenever there's been a particularly trying time with crying or tantrums or stubborness during the day I can always count on them to help bring my heart rate and blood pressure back down to normal. That happens to be a medically proven fact too. So don't call me crazy! Maybe that's why you see the Paris Hilton's and Nicole Ritchie's of the world always toting a little yappy scruffy dog. Some one really needs to share this secret with Britney Spears! At any rate, there is a link to lower blood pressure when a person has a companionship with a dog.
This one helps me stop and live the joy and wonder of each day:
Photobucket
It's evident on his face that he's enjoying every minute of life. Well, when he's not crying or whining that is. Having him with me has taught me to slow down and enjoy life.
And this one....well....
Mine
He does it all...mentally, physically, socially, and.....uh-hmmm....you know. Today I've had to fight the smell of his after-shave and deodorant! When he kissed me good-bye this morning the after-shave aroma went right up my nose and found my sensory glands...you know, not the regular ones that have to do with sight, smell, and touch...the other ones. One word came to mind: Virility. Sweet seduction. Aaaaahhhhhhhh. Then I told him to hurry and get to work! Or else he wouldn't make it! And then, Wyatt, the little booger, got out Eric's deodorant late this morning and starting dabbing it on his clothes and then mine! I couldn't take that! The stick is on the fridge out of the way of my 'other' sensory glands.
With the end of Eric's construction project comes a time when there is so much mental stress on him that it is challenging for us as a couple to stay up-to-date and connected like we desire to be. He is mentally exhausted when he gets home and more often than not, physically exhausted too, and rightly so. In his job, he has so many responsiblities, codes, time lines, client demands, need for shortcuts in time, money, manpower, detail, etc. That's just the tip of the iceburg. If we weren't a couple that wanted closeness and recognized the need for it this 'end of the job' time wouldn't amount to nothin'. It would most likely be normal for us. But it's not. Now, being parents, it sheds a whole new light on 'walking zombies'. There are times, and many of them, that I'm so tired I can't even spit out the simplest of sentences. Times when I don't think I'm able to stand at the sink and rinse off the dishes or bend to put them in the dishwasher. When Eric comes home I want it to be a place that he can relax and let the demands and worries of his job just roll off his shoulders. On the other hand, with me being home all day with one-sided comments (I have yet to have a one-sided conversation) to Wyatt I want someone to talk to me. It's hard for E sometimes. Sometimes he's just so worn out he can't rightly form sentences either. And sometimes, I admit, I find myself jealous over the fact that everyone else gets to see him on top of his game, handling crises, discussing solutions, making jokes with the guys he's working with or the people they have to work around, and sometimes it gets to me. What I wouldn't give to help lighten his load. But he's very good at what he does and I'm very proud that he has the desire and want to make a living for his family. I'm very blessed in that respect. He's one of the best in his line of work and I'm not just saying that because I'm his wife. It's been said by many men who know.
Even though the end of his projects are hard, the times we do find to enjoy communication and share moments of closeness are very special. I am blessed to have a man who cherishes me.

Morning In The Life Of A Stay-at-home Mom

Date: Apr 1, 2008
I’m posting this entry to boost confidence in myself that I (I can’t even remember now)....something about assurance that I am a mother/wife that can balance the jobs that need to be done and know when they don’t absolutely need to be done. I don’t know if that makes any sense to anyone but me, or you other mom’s out there.
Okay, here’s a list of what I’ve been able to do so far from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. today:
7 a.m. - 8:05 a.m.
-straighten up house (put up shirts, jackets, shoes, cups, clean table and counter tops)
-two loads of laundry
-clean in/outside of toilets, sinks and counter tops
-take car seat downstairs
-put away size 4 diapers and the scented wipes that really irritate Wyatt’s skin and label them
-hang pictures that have been on the kitchen counter driving me crazy for about 4 weeks
-hot glue mirror onto holder/stand (been broke for probably a month or more)
-swept off front porch and sidewalk to limit the amount of buds coming inside on boots and shoes which in turn limits the amount of bending over a pregnant body has to do in order for the 17 mo. old not to fill his fiber quota for the year
At 8:05 Harper came and Wyatt woke up at 8:25. From 8-11 this is what was done:
-Fed Wyatt breakfast
-Entertained baby in swing while getting milk warmed and cleaning up Wyatt
-collected hangers from upstairs for laundry room
-fed baby 5.5 oz bottle which took 30 minutes b/c of baby’s impatience, acid reflux, hating the fact that I have to stop feeding her to burp her, and she was very very tired. She cries very loudly in your ear as you burp her half-way thru the bottle and when she’s done
-while feeding bottle to baby, Buster is breathing down my back because he all of a sudden, instantaneous and mysteriously has to go outside!!!!!
-after bottle feeding, put baby down for nap and soaked up water that Wyatt spilled from cup he found on end table
-more laundry
-swept bathrooms floors, (not bothering to pick up pair of underwear and dog leash)
-vacuumed downstairs and both sets of stairs
-swiffer-vac’d hardwood and tile floors (not bothering to bend over and pick up toys, hi-chair, baby chair, shoes, and hair brushes)
-read books to Wyatt (oh, and changed his diaper that had diarrhea in it)
-wrestled (as much as I’m physically able) with Wyatt
-put Wyatt down for nap
Now for the things I still want/need to do:
-plant seedlings in a big flower pot so I can still cover all of them in one sheet instead of 9 flower beds and 9 sheets in case we get more freezes
-take all trash out since it is picked up tomorrow
-vacuum top floor
-wash/dry 2 more loads of laundry and fold all 5 that will have piled up on the couch throughout the course of the day
-figure out supper plans
-iron E’s new shirt b/c I’m sure he’d like to wear it sometime in the near future
-figure out what I’m going to feed myself and Wyatt for lunch
-give him another chance at using a fork or spoon and get ready for the clean-up
Here’s what he looked like last time about a week ago:
Photobucket
-I’d like to make some more banana bread too b/c Wyatt and E like it
Photobucket
Don’t even think about taking this away!
The whole time I’m typing this I’m on edge b/c the baby should be waking up soon and I want to get this typed! Also, it is almost noon and I really need to steam some vegetables and something for Wyatt and get some meat out. I think he’s probably had enough of bologna and smoked turkey in the past week!
A week and a half ago I took him to see the dr. because he has some very ugly dry and itchy skin on his legs and butt. He has scratched his butt so much that he has cuts that have bled. It looks like his butt was a sharpening pad for a cougar’s claws! I fight the tears every time I put cream on it, which is about 4-6 times a day. Anyway, back from the dr. I stopped and got him an apple juice slush. The jaws of life couldn’t have pried it out of his hands!!
Photobucket
I wanted to tease him but thought better of it with this look he gave me! But I had to laugh!!
He’s really been getting into playing games and finding humor in teasing us lately. We were getting ready for the day and he knew we were leaving and asked for his hat. He didn’t take it off for hours! While I was getting ready he pulled highly adored pillows out of our room and into the hallway and then played peek-a-boo with me. It’s so cute b/c he really thinks (like all babies/toddlers) that you can NOT see them!
Photobucket
It’s all these fun, interactive and silly times with him that help me get through his current stage of whiny-ness. I know it will pass but I would be lying if I didn’t say it gets to me sometimes. I think it’s God’s way of getting parents through the nail-biting, fingernails-raking-a-chalkboard times when all you want to do is scream into a pillow and finish it off with long hard sobs! He knew. It’s a good time to learn to deal with constant tugging, whining, and crying. The whole count-to-ten and breath in my nose and out my mouth thing has really taken on a new level of respect with me! I still have a lot to go through and a lot to learn in terms of dealing with the demands of a 24/7 stay-at-home mom role. I wouldn’t want it any other way and have never wished it to be. The joys and rewards FAR outweigh the rough patches. Plus, it makes you a better person in many many different aspects of life.
The baby is waking up. Feel free to comment anyone. That’s another way of learning.

Ramblings

Current mood:humorous

The thoughts in this post may have come from a myriad of influences such as:

1) a life’s journey that has been both far right and far left and learning to find my balance in the extremes

2) a sinus infection

3) a body that is hormonolly unstable with pregnancy. I am in NO way complaining, just pointing out mere scientific facts and if you happen to disagree with the effects of pregnancy then that proves that you have not and will not ever be able to house a human life inside your body’s cavities, sustain it, birth it, smile about how wonderful it is, and be happy to do it again.

4) suffering from momnesia (for those of you who don’t think this is a valid diesease please visit www.momlogic.com, and re-read number 3. I dare you to be a non-believer

5) listening to, avoiding, and/or dealing with a temper tantrum from a 16 mo. old nearly once, maybe twice, a day and trying to communicate to him that what he did was not acceptable and there are consequences for behavior like that (and then feeling guilty for the way that you sometimes strangely act like a 16 mo old in an adult’s body)

*Disclaimer: No one is forcing you to read this. It is your choice. It is also your choice to comment and mine to comment back or not (depending on whether the comment is smart-ass-like or philoshophical-like will determine whether I comment back or delete it) That said...here it is.

The female body is so excruciatingly intricate it is so undeniably frustrating at times for us and for our husbands. Yesterday, after going to church and gaining some good out-takes (specifically on relationships and the work that MUST go into them) I felt numb for some reason. Yesterday afternoon Eric asked me if I was all right. I said yes, but no. I felt like crying. Hell, I felt like bawling and not stopping for a while!! I asked him to just hold me. A lot of times, I will get real quiet and almost introverted when I’m about to learn something. I’ve found He prepares me mentally and physically way before the thing actually becomes a thought with form and consistency in my conscience. I don’t know if this has been a mold for my thoughts or not. I have been going to church again. Now, it’s not that I have discontinued my relationship with God all these years, (but I certainly have not fanned the flame consistently either). I don’t think that it is something to feel guilty or ashamed of-it is a part of life, the ups and downs. If we were meant to be perfect, the fruit wouldn’t have been frickin’ bitten in the Garden of Eden in the first place!! I’ve realized some things that have hindered me from darkening the door of a church. Not that the act of going to church is holy or commendable in itself. It is the why and what you do with it, that is the important part. I spent every single weekend of my childhood in church and then years upon years of performing in churches before going to PNG. It was something I really had no choice in. Not that I didn’t like it. I did. But it became a habit. Something I did w/o thinking and feeling. Now I am going to church b/c I truly want to. I am going not b/c I was a preacher/missionary kid. I’m not going b/c it’s expected of me by other people. I’m going b/c I have an actual yearning to and that’s b/c of God. It took a while. People have judged me and I don’t care. They do not know the heart. There is a season for everything. The flowers and trees would not bear fruit and bloom if there was no dormant season. Just b/c you feel a void does not mean you are worthless or insignificant or lacking anything. It could be a growth season even when you don’t feel it. Yesterday’s sermon was on relationships. The point was brought up that Love is the thing that keeps relationships alive and growing. It is the greatest thing you can give God, your spouse, your children, your friends. Even before faith and hope, there has to be love. But, love has to have action. We can have faith and hope in God, our husband, whatever, but without the actions of love it is nothing. It is motion with no emotion. It is void. Empty. Numb. Unfulfilling. It was said that we need to go back to our first love, rekindle the passion, put more fuel on the fire. Take action and remember what sparked the relationship in the first place. Sometimes we get so involved in the activities of life that we lose our ’flame’. For anything to grow and prosper it takes commitment. Time. And great effort. We have to want to live life with a passion. We have to want to cultivate our relationships to keep them strong. Today I have felt that I’m just walking thru my days without emotion. I don’t have anything to keep me going. No ambition. Just the day-to-day responsibilities and they are getting old and boring. I need to build up the fire again too. I want to be ready to wake up and tackle the day and whatever it brings. I want to be able to laugh when things happen, not get upset at the extra work. I want to take each moment and remember the blessing that life is! When I get like this I start writing down little things that I am thankful for: My husband who cares and provides for me, our son who is a reminder that life is precious and very valuable, our house.....and I start feeling so much better about my daily routine and the blessings I have in my life. And that’s what it’s all about.

Resourceful or Redneck?

Friday, March 14, 2008

Today was a beautiful day! I slept approximately one hour from 2:30 a.m. until 5:30 this morning because Wyatt was crying, and crying, and crying, and can I say crying one more time? Sparing the details, nothing I did satisfied him. I was really glad for the coffee and quiet time at 6:30 after I gave him a cup of milk and shut the door on him for the last time telling him I really needed some alone time before the 3 kids came that I watched today. I am really glad we had such a nice day-and for the coffee and quiet which I think kept all the kids from possibly witnessing a brutal scene which would have ended in their Aunt Janae being cuffed, never to be seen or possibly heard from again. That wouldn’t be good on my resume especially in my choice of work to make a little supplemental income.

Because it was so nice, I opened up the back sliding glass door and locked the gate to the deck so the kids could still be within a safe and audible distance if I was inside, get some fresh air, and play with the toys. I put Cayden in the swing just inside the door and he fell asleep to all the comings and goings of 3 kids, 2 dogs, me, the radio, and the jealous protesting and loud whining that Wyatt did because he was so blasted tired. I made everyone lunch. Now, because it was so nice, we decided to eat out on the deck. Addyson and I liked the idea and when the boys saw the hi-chairs coming out the door, they were pretty excited too, although I’m sure it had everything to do with the prospect of food. To be safe, I strapped the chairs to the deck. It was a good thing I did because apparently Easton doesn’t like the idea of even one morsel of food escaping his grasp! He rocked the chair back and forth to be able to reach a piece of dropped food. Hey! What kind of aunt would I be to take away the food that he so wittingly sought to retrieve by his own means? Anyway, the boys were in the chairs before I had the food outside!

In the upcoming picture: I assure you NO harm was done to any baby. I did not strap them to the deck, just the chairs to the deck mind you!
Come and get it!

And they look so happy too! Well, Easton does. Wyatt was just sour all day. And I did my best to refrain from all appearance of evil conerning him. Hmmmmm......I wonder why he has been sleeping so long this afternoon? Oh, it’s only that he was real tired. You have to believe me. It’s the truth! I’m digressing.

And now, I'm confessing. This is the REAL reason we all ate outside.

And this.....

Cleanup

And this.....
messin in the dogs water
I thought it was a genius idea! To save time on cleaning the table, bench, possibly the floor and to not have to swiffer vac again today (well, for two hours maybe)? And no struggling with the kids to wash their hands? They just played in the dog’s water dish! They had NO idea I that all the time they were being cleaned!!!

But I don’t know, that may be just me. Backwards from the backwoods. At least I have a blog and post in it every once in a while! That oughta show you!
